Shoulder Therapy in Frankfurt – Effectively Combining Mobility and Stability
When the shoulder hurts or movements become unsteady, a clear approach helps: improving mobility, building stability, and restoring confidence in daily activities and sports. At the Lämmerhirt practice, we combine targeted physiotherapy techniques with active training – and, where appropriate, incorporate movement principles from Gyrotonic® to enhance control of the shoulder blade and shoulder girdle.
The Method
Shoulder therapy is a specialized area of physiotherapy focusing on the shoulder girdle – comprising the shoulder joint, shoulder blade, rib cage, and neck, along with the musculature that integrates them all. Precisely because the shoulder is so mobile, the interplay of mobility, control, and stable guidance often determines how secure movements feel.
How we work
Instead of focusing solely on the area that hurts, we look at the underlying mechanics: mobility where it is needed, and stability and coordination where support is required. A particular area of focus for us is that our therapists hold additional qualifications in Gyrotonic®; we apply these movement principles – where appropriate – to scapular control and the shoulder girdle.
Typical goals
Improve mobility and movement quality, build stability and controlled strength – for example, in the rotator cuff – better coordinate shoulder blade and arm movements, and make daily life and sports safer again.

What shoulder therapy is particularly useful for
Shoulder therapy helps when the primary issues are discomfort, restricted movement, or a sense of instability in the shoulder area – often in conjunction with the neck, chest, and posture. We do not base our approach on a specific method, but rather on what your shoulder functionally requires at the time.
Common topics we help with
Build mobility
Targeted improvement of shoulder and chest mobility – without doing too much too soon.
Stability & Control
Rotator cuff, scapular control, and torso – controlled strength building with proper technique.
Lighten the load of daily life
Getting dressed, washing hair, working at a desk, lifting and carrying – regaining functional confidence.
Increase physical activity and exertion
A gradual return to sports, training, or manual work – with a plan tailored to your physical capacity.
GYROTONIC® for the shoulder girdle
GYROTONIC® movement principles applied therapeutically – for scapular control, coordination, and controlled strength building.
Posture & Rib cage
Postural patterns and thoracic mobility that influence the shoulder – as part of the overall assessment.

Your treatment process
To ensure you don’t have to switch back and forth between treatment and exercises, our shoulder therapy follows a clear logic: we first understand what your shoulder needs – and build from there.
Step 1 | Medical History & Analysis
We identify exactly what limits you – movements, loads, or daily activities – and assess mobility, control, and relevant factors such as scapular mechanics, posture, and loading patterns.
Step 2 | Targeted treatment
Mobilization, soft-tissue techniques, and impulses for tension regulation – complemented by active elements that support control and movement quality. Where appropriate, we therapeutically apply GYROTONIC® movement principles.
Step 3 | Active Development
You will receive exercises tailored to your level – focusing on stability, coordination, and controlled strength – with clear instructions and an emphasis on proper form.
Step 4 | Exercise Integration
We apply this to your daily life, career, or sports activities and provide you with a training plan that you can realistically implement.

Didn't find what you were looking for? We would be happy to assist you personally.
What is shoulder therapy?
Physiotherapy focusing on the shoulder joint, scapula, and musculature – with the aim of improving mobility, stability, and functional movement patterns.
What if I have heard terms like impingement, calcific tendinitis, or frozen shoulder?
These terms describe common shoulder issues. What is crucial for therapy is what your shoulder functionally needs at the moment – we determine this during the assessment.
What can I expect at the start?
We begin with a consultation and analysis – covering mobility, control, and daily activities. This is followed by targeted treatment and active guidance with appropriate exercises.
How long does shoulder physical therapy take?
That depends on the prescription, the initial situation, and the goal. We openly discuss what is realistic and adjust the content as we go.
Can I get exercises to do at home?
Yes. You will receive exercises tailored to your goal that can be integrated into your daily routine – allowing you to continue making meaningful progress between appointments.
Do I need a prescription?
Physiotherapy can be prescribed by a doctor. If you have private health insurance, are a self-paying patient, or hold supplementary insurance, we will openly discuss which options are suitable.
What should I bring to the first appointment?
If available: referral/prescription, relevant test results, and comfortable clothing. Note: As some people are sensitive to scents, we ask that you refrain from wearing strong perfume. Please feel free to contact us if you are unsure.
