How we work
GYROTONIC® is a movement system based on specially designed equipment. GYROKINESIS® is a method derived from it that is practiced without equipment – for example, on a stool or a mat. Both utilize fluid, three-dimensional movements and a distinct movement rhythm.
The Method
The GYROTONIC® system was developed by former ballet dancer Juliu Horvath. A concept combining elements from various schools of movement emerged from his own background in movement.
Typical goals
Targeted improvement of mobility and function, building resilience for daily life, work, or sports, effectively addressing tension and movement restrictions – and helping to reduce impairments. Always individually tailored, always with a clear next step.

Treatment vs. Courses/Training
This page focuses on its use in physiotherapeutic treatment.
If you are looking for GYROTONIC® or GYROKINESIS® training, classes, or a certification course, the Gyrotonic Frankfurt Center is the right place for you:
Application in physiotherapy – what does that mean in concrete terms?
Train movement in three dimensions
GYROTONIC® principles make extensive use of arcs and spirals. This can help you perceive movement patterns with greater nuance and control them more precisely – especially when movement feels stuck or unsteady.
Work in a controlled manner that is gentle on the joints.
Depending on the exercise setting, movement can be guided and supported. This often makes it easier to get started, as you do not have to work against resistance but can instead gradually gain control and build resilience.
Exercise Integration (GYROKINESIS® without equipment)
When appropriate, we also incorporate GYROKINESIS® elements into home practice – without equipment, in a way that fits into daily life and remains realistically achievable.
Therapeutic applications
Back & Spinal discs
Intervertebral disc issues and back problems – improving movement quality and systematically building resilience.
Shoulder & Frozen Shoulder
Limited shoulder mobility – guided, three-dimensional movement as a path back to function and control.
Blockages & Tension
When movement gets stuck or feels stiff, fluid movement sequences help break up patterns and improve coordination.
Muscle Imbalances & Posture
Imbalances in strength and coordination – including issues related to posture and scoliosis.
Joints & Bones
Osteoarthritis, rheumatic diseases, and osteoporosis – working in a guided, joint-friendly manner where direct loading is not possible.
Pelvic floor & Rehabilitation
Pelvic floor issues in men and women, as well as meniscus and ligament injuries – active strengthening with clear guidance.

What are GYROTONIC® & GYROKINESIS® – briefly explained?
GYROTONIC® is practiced using specialized equipment, while GYROKINESIS® is performed without equipment – for example, on a stool or a mat. Both utilize fluid, three-dimensional movements and a distinct rhythm.
How are GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® used in physiotherapy?
We integrate selected principles and exercises into the treatment as a method – tailored to the goal, the starting point, and the plan we establish together.
Do I need prior experience?
No. We meet you where you are and structure the steps so that they are easy to follow.
How do I get started – appointment or course?
To arrange a physiotherapy session, please start by submitting an appointment request. If you are looking for classes or professional training, please contact the Gyrotonic Frankfurt Center.
