Scoliosis Therapy in Frankfurt – Three-Dimensional, Active, and Systematic

Scoliosis is a three-dimensional curvature of the spine – involving lateral bending, rotation, and often an altered breathing space. Conventional physiotherapy focuses on structured, static correction. We complement scoliosis therapy with GYROTONIC®: fluid, spiral movements that address precisely these three dimensions and actively elongate the spine from the body's center.

Three-dimensional instead of just from the side

In cases of scoliosis, the spine is not only curved laterally but usually also rotated. Our scoliosis therapy addresses precisely this: the foundation consists of conventional physiotherapy – incorporating assessment, mobilization, and targeted strengthening – complemented by GYROTONIC®, whose spiral movements engage these very three dimensions.

Work on the Reformer and Cadillac

To guide spiral movements precisely and safely, we work on the Reformer Cadillac. The apparatus provides honest feedback: if you push asymmetrically, the carriage moves off-track and the ropes hang unevenly – you notice immediately when something is amiss. In suspended or supported positions, the spine gains space while simultaneously engaging in targeted work.

Therapy goals

Actively decompress the spine, specifically strengthen deep back muscles, correct muscular imbalances between the two sides of the body, expand breathing space, and improve movement quality in daily life.

You’ve come to the right place if...

Build up actively

You wish to not only statically correct your scoliosis but also actively stabilize it during movement.
GYROTONIC® introduces three-dimensional, fluid movement into therapy – ensuring that postural alignment is not merely achieved during treatment but is sustained in everyday life.

Complement to physiotherapy

You have already undergone physiotherapy and are looking for a sensible next step.
GYROTONIC®, Pilates, and conventional scoliosis physical therapy are not mutually exclusive – they complement each other. Together, we will determine how both approaches fit your specific situation.

Exercises for everyday life

You want exercises that you can also do at home – without equipment.
We provide GYROKINESIS® exercises – performed on a stool or mat—as a home program; they require no equipment and come with clear explanations.

How we use GYROTONIC® and rehabilitative Pilates

Scoliosis requires both: mobilization and stability. GYROTONIC® sets the spine in motion – spirally, three-dimensionally, and originating from one's own center.

Rehabilitative Pilates on the Reformer and Cadillac ensures that movement remains controlled and that the correct side performs the appropriate work. We will determine together which approach is suitable for you based on your clinical assessment.

Common topics we help with

Decompression & Relief

Active longitudinal stretching of the spine originating from the body's center – to relieve compression on the intervertebral discs and vertebral bodies on the collapsed side.

Strengthen deep muscles

Targeted activation of the deep back muscles through uniform resistance – without overloading the joints.

Three-dimensional mobilization

Fluid movements release stiffness in curved sections of the spine – tissue elasticity and range of motion improve.

Muscular balance

Asymmetrical setting: one side of the body works against a different level of resistance – to correct imbalances between the two sides.

Direct feedback

The Reformer Cadillac instantly detects when you compensate – the carriage or ropes react directly to asymmetries. This reveals imbalances without the need for constant manual correction.

Transfer to everyday life

Learning new movement patterns is one thing – maintaining them in everyday life is another. From the very beginning, we work to ensure that what happens during training carries over into real-life situations.

Your treatment process

To ensure we effectively address the specific needs of your scoliosis, we begin with a detailed assessment of the curvature type, muscle condition, breathing capacity, and the physical demands of your daily life.

Step 1 | Medical History & Analysis

We take a close look: curvature type, muscle balance, breathing space – and which movements have been difficult so far.

We begin with the Pulley Tower and the Reformer Cadillac. We adjust the equipment to suit your specific curvature pattern – since one side often functions differently than the other. The initial focus is on alignment and breath coordination, not on loading.

We progressively develop stability, coordination, and movement quality – technique before load.

Still unsure?

Focus on common complaints

Sometimes the first question isn't about the method – but rather what makes sense for your specific needs.

In the "Common Complaints" section, you will find guidance on frequently occurring conditions – featuring clear information, sensible next steps, and appropriate therapeutic components.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Didn't find what you were looking for? We would be happy to assist you personally.

The Schroth method employs a structured approach based on static correction. GYROTONIC® introduces fluid, three-dimensional movement into the therapy; the two are not mutually exclusive and can effectively complement each other.

GYROTONIC® utilizes fluid, spiraling movements and helps to actively align and mobilize the spine. Pilates on the Reformer and Cadillac fosters stability and control, immediately revealing any compensatory movement patterns. Combining the two fills the gaps left by either method on its own.

For children, adolescents, and adults with diagnosed scoliosis – whether to complement ongoing therapy, as a follow-up after the acute phase, or for active prevention.

That depends on the degree of curvature, age, and progression – we cannot give a blanket answer to that. What we can say is that active, three-dimensional training supports stability and quality of movement.

Yes. We provide GYROKINESIS® elements – performed on a stool or a mat – as a home program.

Physiotherapy can be prescribed by a doctor. If you have private health insurance, are a self-paying patient, or hold supplementary insurance, we will openly discuss which options are suitable.
